Lovely piece thank you. I'll look to planning a day out by bus/train from Preston. 40 years ago (eek) I was based in Bradford and was on the road for work. Drove all over the moors from the Keighley side. Love them.

Have a lovely time, I think it's a great trip, especially from Hebden, Tod or Haworth where there are lots of nice places to eat. It's a shame because the pub up there, the Pack Horse, has closed down recently.

A lovely article. Our moorlands are very special places and need to be protected. Sadly, the release of pheasants and other game birds is still a widespread practice and far from being in decline, has increased in recent years. It is estimated that at least 49 million birds are released each year in the UK. This has a massive impact on native wildlife, which depend on moorlands habitat for their survival.

It's also well known that many birds including raptors are trapped and poisoned on large estates where game shooting is big business. See RSPB, Wild Justice for more information.

All good reasons to oppose the proposed Calderdale Wind Farm. Even if you are concerned about climate change and supportive of the development of low carbon energy sources, this is not the right place. You can submit your comments at www.calderdaleenergypark.co.uk

Thanks for this, Jack. Of course you will know that Walshaw Moor is threatened by a huge wind farm, despite its high level environmental protections. Readers can find out more at www.saverestorewalshawmoor@wordpress.com

For the wider public to really care about it, they first have to know about it and then they have to have a reason to love it - we need to tell people about why they should want to come to Walshaw Moor and help them visit and make their own memories, otherwise it will be lost 💞
