Asters are just such good value at this time of year, for us and quite a lot of pollinators. I can just imaging your garden with the phlox and sedum too. Our sedum are going over now but they too have a good structure, quite dark as they die back making them stand out well against everything else.

Great thoughts! I don't believe in a garden that is "too clean" in autumn--love the structure you get by leaving plants that have turned interesting colors of brown and russet.

Yes me too, more and more with every year. I think I’d feel something significant was missing without that process of seeing the plants dieback.
