Asters are just such good value at this time of year, for us and quite a lot of pollinators. I can just imaging your garden with the phlox and sedum too. Our sedum are going over now but they too have a good structure, quite dark as they die back making them stand out well against everything else.
Great thoughts! I don't believe in a garden that is "too clean" in autumn--love the structure you get by leaving plants that have turned interesting colors of brown and russet.
Thanks Jack ...loving Asters in my small garden too, along with Phlox and Sedum.

Yes me too, more and more with every year. I think I’d feel something significant was missing without that process of seeing the plants dieback.
Viva October : time to let go 😊
I’m now thinking Viva October! To the music of Viva La Vegas 😂
Such wonderful textures in your garden, Jack!! A very enjoyable sight for October.
Thanks Celia, yes it’s a lovely dimension to the garden to enjoy.
