I’m in a motorway cafe with a mug of peppermint tea on a coffee table and my laptop on my lap as the members of staff clean up around me, winding down for the day. Sitting in a corner I can see out of the floor to ceiling glass wall across the carpark to a dried grass bank that runs down a short slope to a ploughed field leading to a rich green woodland that stretches up a low hill. As I look more closely I see a small splash of brown leaves and the pale grey skeletons of a few trees that haven’t been as lucky.
Looking up at the sky, the clouds are a dirty mix of burnt umber and blue-grey with shafts of light breaking through at intervals. Initially worried what the staff will think, I place my laptop on the table - the place is empty after all - and run out to the car, grab my camera from the boot and across the carpark to the edge of the grass bank to photograph the beautiful scene.
The grass maybe dry and two elderflower trees in it leafless, but the woodland beyond is a sight for so…
