Ponds attract frogs, newts and toads among other wildlife, but their role stretches beyond their banks

Over 50% of ponds in the UK have vanished in the last fifty years according to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.

I won’t need to tell you the importance of ponds to wildlife, it’s well documented how they attract amphibians and insects, such as frogs, pond skaters and dragon flies. But I thought it was worth considering the wider role ponds play in our garden ecosystems.
