I’m sitting in the garden at 7.30pm, the temperature is finally bearable and the most incredible thing just happened to me. A flock of what must have been 30 - 40 long-tailed tits, slowly, one or two after the other in a constant stream, flew from the bottom left of the garden to the silver ornamental pear to my right, before stopping to look around and continue on their way in the same direction. They were followed by a couple of goldfinches and then a tiny green-yellow bird that must have been a warbler of some kind that looked at my from a branch a meter away. And then they were gone.
I’ve never experienced anything like that and I hadn’t thought long-tailed tits congregate in such large numbers. Now I’m wondering where on earth they’ve all gone, cheeping at each other excitedly as they race up the hill. A roe deer is barking in the distance behind me.
