For nature. For us. It’s now or never.
This week I’m excited to share with you my first short booklet, Stolen Reality, due for release on 31 July 2025 (pre-order on my site).
Set in the corner of our three hundred year old small farm, 1,000ft up in the Pennine Hills of West Yorkshire, garden and nature writer Jack Wallington has been growing a garden to support wildlife.
Its position on the edge of the horizon, between peatland, grassland and woodland is a window to a forgotten world. A world experienced by every human on the planet for millions of years. Until that reality was carefully erased from our memories.
Through observation of nature and research, Jack has begun piecing that reality back together to trace the roots of its loss. Trying to uncover who took what rightfully belongs to all of us and how we will take it back.
Pre-order Stolen Reality
Stolen Reality is a short personal essay that fuses gardening, nature and climate. The booklet explores our world through the lens of a gardener, touching on time, evolution and ecology.
Illustrated throughout with 25 full colour photos of our garden and the surrounding landscape taken over the seasons.
I’m excited about sharing Stolen Reality because it’s very much a gardening book but it allows me to explore all of the topics that contemporary gardening encompasses.
Part of my plan with Stolen Reality is to only distribute it through independent bookshops and chains to try and help support them. It intentionally won’t be sold through Amazon because this platform undercuts our independent bookshops and doesn’t pay its fair share of tax in the UK.
After shying away from doing events, I am also planning a limited number of events to help support independent book and art venues (please do recommend any you feel will be interested). More news on this in future!
Sounds like an amazing and timely project, Jack. All power to you!
Will order through our fabulous indi bookshop here in Crickhowell (Bookish) who also run brilliant events if you fancy Wales. Llanthony Garden Club also run events and would love to host you https://llanthonygardenclub.org/
