The veg plot and I seem to be getting along right now. Most crops are growing OK, the pheasants, deer and neighbouring cows are generally leaving us to it. Yes, all is good in the world of vegetables.

It’s another matter for the fruit, which I haven’t paid enough attention to, instead too focussed on rearranging the veg. We’ve fewer berries so far this year. My plan is to address my fruit failures in winter with a plan to relocate a number of bushes into a new productive area.

Chris and I are agreed that we love raspberries, blueberries and strawberries the most, in that order. I’m trying to convince him that gooseberries when ripe should also be on that list, some varieties are sweet like grapes. I also love apples, though Chris is anti-apple.

Unfortunately every animal in the valley likes our strawberries too, we haven’t eaten a single one! Despite growing hundreds.

So my attention is mainly on the vegetables this year and I’m pleased with the salads we’ve been having in particular. …
