"Do what you enjoy" is such valuable advice in the garden. It's so easy to be weighed down by all the boring tidying jobs and forget that it's a hobby and many to be fun! Lovely piece.

I love your Substack even though over here in Maine we are still locked into winter. So lovely to see a preview of Spring!!! And to know that under the snow and ice wonderful things are happening.

Thnak you Claudia, I really enjoy seeing and hearing the seasonal differences between gardeners around the world too. I know we’re a bit out of sync, but I guess it’s all interesting and we can learn from each other.

Thanks Francis, I wouldn’t personally recommend people do this even if it does work - sphagnum is too important to natural habitats. With the guidance I’ve given above, any extra measures aren’t needed. Not overwatering, the right temperature, light levels and critically, air flow, is all that is needed to prevent damping off.
