Delightful, thank you.

Speaking of gannets- so upset to read of the senseless cull of young gannets in the Hebrides. As if they didn't have enough problems to cope with already. Totally unacceptable.

Yes I agree. I signed and shared the petition to stop it over on Bluesky and Instagram. At Bempton there is a board explaining how egg collection and shooting at the cliffs was banned because it was senseless and to protect the birds. It makes no sense to continue the barbaric clubbing of chicks in Scotland. People cling to these things under the banner of tradition but traditions can be bad.

What a wonderful post. We visited Bempton some years ago and the gannets were extraordinary. Love the kittiwakes too. Once saw them on the high wall of the Grand Hotel Scarborough.

Thanks Georgina, they're so big, it's an amazing vertical habitat - can't wait to go back. Or perhaps I should head straight to Scarborough! :)

It’s a great reason to visit the North Yorkshire moors one day 😊

Keep watching. The real thrill is when you find a fulmar has made its way to Bempton. Seeing these utterly extraordinary aeronauts doing their 'do I look bothered' smooth circuits whilst all around are flapping, shows even the casual observer that they inhabit an entirely different ariel universe to the birds around them.
