Conceptualising a garden design is the first stage in coming up with ideas for an outdoor space.

Concepts serve multiple roles; to help you dream up and test out ideas; to show clients or other people your ideas to see what they think; and to give you a rock to come back to through the design process to remind yourself of what you envisioned right at the start.

The concept stage comes after the garden appraisal and probably the garden survey, though you only need the rough measurements for coming up with concepts.

Back to scribbling

I had a realisation in 2024 that I had become bogged down in computer design software and it was harming my creativity. So, for the home gardener and professional designer, I wanted to share my current thinking to help us all be more creative in a really simple, easy and fun way: scribbling.
